STANDING COMMITTEE ON HUMAN RESOURCES

9:00 A.M.

CHAIRMAN

Mr. Jon Carey

MR. CHAIRMAN: Ladies and gentlemen, can we come to order? I believe everyone who plans to be here is here at the Standing Committee on Human Resources. Good morning. We could start with introductions with Mr. Taylor.

[The committee members introduced themselves.]

MR. CHAIRMAN: We have, I believe, 27 or 28 appointments this morning. If it's in agreement, we will carry on the policy we have been doing lately, doing them en bloc, if that's acceptable.

MR. GRAHAM STEELE: Yes.

MR. CHAIRMAN: Hearing no objections, we will start with the Department of Education.

MR. BROOKE TAYLOR: Mr. Chairman, with the Department of Education, African-Canadian Education Council, as members at large, I so move Archy Beals, Sam Moreau and Ingrid Shannon.

MR. CHAIRMAN: Is there any discussion? Would all those in favour of the motion please say Aye. Contrary minded, Nay.

The motion is carried.

MS. MARY ANN MCGRATH: Mr. Chairman, under the Department of Education, Library Boards, for the Annapolis Valley board, I so move Barbara Kynock as a member. Would you like me to do the other two library boards as well or one at a time?

MR. CHAIRMAN: If that's appropriate and agreeable to everyone.

MS. MCGRATH: I so move for the Cape Breton board, Bonnie MacDonald as a member and for the Western Counties board, Suzanne K. White as a member.

MR. CHAIRMAN: Is there any discussion? Would all those in favour of the motion please say Aye. Contrary minded, Nay.

The motion is carried.

DR. JAMES SMITH: Mr. Chairman, just a small point. Some of the forms aren't filled out properly. I think on Bonnie MacDonald's, it's just that she has been a member. She stated that in her letter of intent. It's a small point but it's just that it's being overlooked on some of these forms. I just point to Bonnie MacDonald's as being an example but not a big deal. I voted for her appointment.

MR. CHAIRMAN: We can check on it, Dr. Smith, and if anyone requires information, we'll try to get it corrected for the next group coming through. Is that satisfactory?

DR. SMITH: Absolutely.

MR. TAYLOR: Mr. Chairman, under the Department of Education, Provincial Apprenticeship Board, as a board member representing employers, I so move Donald B. Rodgerson.

MR. CHAIRMAN: Is there any discussion? Would all those in favour of the motion please say Aye. Contrary minded, Nay.

The motion is carried.

MS. MCGRATH: Mr. Chairman, under the Department of Environment and Labour, Crane Operators Examination Committee, I so move the appointment of Kendall Veinotte as a committee representative, representing owners.

MR. CHAIRMAN: Is there any discussion? Would all those in favour of the motion please say Aye. Contrary minded, Nay.

The motion is carried.
