An Act to Improve
the Seniors Care Grant

Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 This Act may be cited as the Seniors Care Grant Improvement Act.

2 In this Act, "Grant" means the Seniors Care Grant offered by the Department of Service Nova Scotia.

3 (1) Subject to Section 4, the Minister of Service Nova Scotia shall, effective January 1, 2025,

(a) increase the amount payable to each eligible household under the Grant to $1,500 in each year; and

(b) change the maximum net income to be eligible for the Grant to $50,000 per year.

(2) Subject to Section 4, the Minister of Service Nova Scotia shall, for each year after 2025, adjust the amounts expressed in dollars in clauses (1)(a) and (b) so that the amount referred to in the relevant clause is the total of

(a) the amount that would be used under the relevant clause for the immediately preceding year before it had been rounded to a whole dollar; and

(b) the product obtained by multiplying the amount referred to in clause (a) by the consumer price index amount calculated for the period as determined for the purpose of Section 22A of the Income Tax Act.

(3) Where an amount to which subsection (2) applies is not a multiple of one dollar when adjusted as provided in that subsection, it must be rounded to the nearest dollar or, where equidistant, must be rounded to the higher dollar.

4 The money required for the purpose of this Act must be paid out of money appropriated for that purpose by the Legislature.
