Explanatory Notes

Clause 1 adds definitions of "Interim Board" and "Minister".

Clause 2 permits the Minister of Agriculture to appoint a 3-person board accountable to the Minister and suspends the current Board's authority until such time as is determined by the Minister.

An Act to Amend Chapter 69
of the Acts of 1992,
the Nova Scotia Provincial
Exhibition Commission Act

Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 Section 2 of Chapter 69 of the Acts of 1992, the Nova Scotia Provincial Exhibition Commission Act, is amended by adding immediately after clause (c) the following clauses:

(ca) "Interim Board" means the Interim Board appointed by the Minister pursuant to Section 7A;

(cb) "Minister" means the Minister of Agriculture;

2 Chapter 69 is further amended by adding immediately after Section 7 the following Section:

7A (1) Notwithstanding Section 7, the Minister may appoint an Interim Board composed of three persons to serve for such term as the Minister determines.

(2) The Interim Board may carry out the functions assigned to the Board by this Act.

(3) The Board's authority is suspended upon the appointment of the Interim Board until such time as the Minister determines.

(4) For greater certainty, subsections 7(6) and (8) to (10) apply mutatis mutandis to this Section.
