Explanatory Note

This Bill amends the Sustainable Development Goals Act to

(a) include in the focus areas of the Act the support and encouragement of the consumption of locally-produced food; and

(b) set a goal for 30 per cent of the money spent on food by Nova Scotia to be spent on locally-produced food by 2030.

An Act to Amend Chapter 26
of the Acts of 2019,
the Sustainable Development Goals Act

Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 Section 6 of Chapter 26 of the Acts of 2019, the Sustainable Development Goals Act, is amended by adding immediately after clause (b) the following clause:

    (ba) the support and encouragement of the consumption of locally-produced food;

2 Chapter 26 is further amended by adding immediately after Section 8 the following Section:

    8A The Government's goal in the support and encouragement of the consumption of locally-produced food is that, by 2030, 30 per cent of the money spent on food by Nova Scotians is spent on locally-produced food.
