An Act to Protect
the Cape Breton Rail Line

1 This Act may be cited as the Cape Breton Rail Line Act.

2 In this Act, "rail line" means the Cape Breton and Central Nova Scotia Railway line between Port Tupper and Sydney.

3 Subject to Section 5, the Government shall negotiate and enter into an agreement with the owner of the rail line to

(a) ensure the rail line suffers no further damage; and

(b) identify the necessary improvements to bring the rail line back into operation.

4 Subject to Section 5, the Government shall create a fund to

(a) improve Cape Breton's trade infrastructure; and

(b) pursue business development opportunities that will improve Cape Breton's standing as a hub for importing and exporting.

5 The money required for the purpose of this Act must be paid out of money appropriated for that purpose by the Legislature.
