Explanatory Note

This Bill sets a goal for Nova Scotia Government to be carbon-neutral by 2028.

An Act to Amend Chapter 7
of the Acts of 2007,
the Environmental Goals
and Sustainable Prosperity Act,
Respecting a Carbon-neutral Government

Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 This Act may be cited as the Carbon-neutral Government Act.

2 Subsection 4(2) of Chapter 7 of the Acts of 2007, the Environmental Goals and Sustainable Prosperity Act, as enacted by Chapter 42 of the Acts of 2012, is amended by

(a) relettering clause (a) as (aa); and

(b) adding immediately before clause (aa) the following clause:

    (a) the Government is carbon-neutral by 2028 including

      (i) buildings it owns or operates, and

      (ii) the fleet of vehicles it directly operates;
