Explanatory Note

This Act amends the Interpretation Act to make it clear that certain provisions for interest arbitration apply to all police bargaining unit negotiations that occur after the coming into force of those provisions, regardless of when the negotiations commenced.

An Act to Protect Public Safety

Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows: 1 Chapter 235 of the Revised Statutes, 1989, the Interpretation Act, is amended by adding immediately after Section 32 the following Section:
32A Sections 52A to 52G of the Trade Union Act apply to collective bargaining between a police bargaining unit as defined by Section 52A of that Act and an employer on and after the seventeenth day of March, 2005, whether the collective bargaining commenced before, on or after that day.
2 This Act comes into force on such day as the Governor in Council orders and declares by proclamation.
