HON. RODNEY MACDONALD: Mr. Speaker, I hereby give notice that on a future day I shall move the adoption of the following resolution:
Whereas the 77th annual Celebration of School Sport Luncheon is being held today at the World Trade and Convention Centre; and
Whereas this annual luncheon, prior to the closing of the school year, provides students and teachers with an opportunity to celebrate the role of sport in education while also acknowledging the tremendous contributions made by those involved; and
Whereas coaches will be recognized today when they receive Outstanding Service Awards while student-athletes will be presented with Exemplary Participation Awards;
Therefore be it resolved that the members of this Legislature recognize the significant contributions made by both high school coaches and athletes across Nova Scotia and wish them nothing but continued success.

RESOLUTION NO. 1264
MR. DARRELL DEXTER: Mr. Speaker, I hereby give notice that on a future day I shall move the adoption of the following resolution:
Whereas Nova Scotia is the home province of Hank Snow, Anne Murray and many other great stars of country music; and
Whereas Pictou County residents and all other Nova Scotians have been following George Canyon's successful appearances on the 2004 Nashville Star country music TV program with growing interest; and
Whereas George Canyon of Pictou County is one of the three finalists in the 2004 Nashville Star competition;
Therefore be it resolved that this House express its best wishes to George Canyon on the eve of the Nashville Star final selection and strongly encourage all Nova Scotians to give George Canyon their support and their votes in the final round.

MR. WAYNE GAUDET: Mr. Speaker, I hereby give notice that on a future day I shall move the adoption of the following resolution:
Whereas the Clare Acadiens Midget A team participated in the SEDMHA International Minor Hockey Tournament in Dartmouth from April 8 to April 11, 2004; and
Whereas the team played against Truro in the Civic Division final; and
Whereas the SEDMHA International Hockey Tournament is one of the largest and most respected multi-level hockey tournaments in North America;
Therefore be it resolved that the members of this House of Assembly congratulate the Clare Acadiens Midget A team and their coaches for winning the Civic Division final during the 27th annual SEDMHA International Minor Hockey Tournament.

HON. CHRISTOPHER D'ENTREMONT : M. le président, à une date ultérieure, j'ai l'intention de proposer l'adoption de la résolution suivante:
Attendu que l'Association Radio-Clare a lancé un nouveau site Web appellé "La Voix de la Nouvelle-Écosse", ( www.lavoix.ca) le mercredi le 28 avril 2004; et
Attendu que ce nouveau site Web comprend plus de 1500 participants représentant 9 régions à travers la province, soit Clare, Argyle, Richmond, Yarmouth, le Cap Breton, Halifax et la Rive Sud, Pomquet et la Côte Nord, Digby et la Vallée d'Annapolis, Chéticamp, Inverness et Victoria ainsi qu'une catégorie regroupant des organismes á l'échelle nationale et même internationale; et
Attendu que "la Voix de la Nouvelle-Écosse" servira aux internautes comme un outil de recherche pour faciliter la localisation des entreprises privées et des groupes communautaires à travers la province ainsi que dans les provinces avoisinantes;
Qu'il soit résolu que tous les membres de cette Chambre félicitent et reconnaissent l'Association Radio-Clare pour cette excellente initiative.
M. le président, je demande l'adoption de cette résolution sans préavis et sans débat.
Mr. Speaker, I hereby give notice that on a future day I shall move the adoption of the following resolution:
Whereas the Association Radio-Clare launched a new Web site called "La Voix de la Nouvelle-Écosse" (www.la voix.ca) on Wednesday, April 28, 2004; and
Whereas this new Web site is comprised of more than 1,500 participants representing nine regions throughout the province, including: Clare, Argyle, Richmond, Yarmouth, Cape Breton, Halifax and the South Shore, Pomquet and the North Shore, Digby, the Annapolis Valley, Chéticamp, Inverness and Victoria and also includes access to national and even international organizations; and
Whereas "La voix de la Nouvelle-Écosse will serve Internet surfers as a research tool to facilitate the location of both private businesses and community groups throughout the province as well as in neighbouring provinces;
Therefore be it resolved that all the members of this House of Assembly congratulate and recognize "l'Association Radio-Clare" for this excellent initiative.

RESOLUTION NO. 1267
MR. JOHN MACDONELL: Mr. Speaker, I hereby give notice that on a future day I shall move the adoption of the following resolution:
Whereas in addition to traditionally carrying groceries, hardware and most of the dry-good needs of local residents, the local village store also served as a meeting place to exchange news and ideas; and
Whereas the Frieze and Roy Hardware store in Maitland is the oldest continually operated store in Nova Scotia, having opened its doors in 1839; and
Whereas Mr. Glenn Martin has purchased the store to prevent it from being torn down in order to preserve this piece of living history, and is currently renovating it to restore some of its heritage and improve its viability as a commercial property;
Therefore be it resolved that this House of Assembly congratulate Mr. Glenn Martin on his sense of community history and wish him well in his efforts to carry on the tradition of the Frieze and Roy store in Maitland.

MR. KEITH COLWELL: Mr. Speaker, I hereby give notice that on a future day I shall move the adoption of the following resolution:
Whereas the true heroes of community service in this province are volunteers who give of their time, energy and resources to do what they can to make life better for others; and
Whereas Wayne Roach has been a volunteer with the Lake Echo RCMP Community Office and the Black Cultural Centre Community Office for seven years, before his retirement;
Therefore be it resolved that all members of this House honour Mr. Wayne Roach and all individuals in the detachment for their outstanding job of making our communities a safer place to live.

RESOLUTION NO. 1269
MR. MARK PARENT: Mr. Speaker, I hereby give notice that on a future day I shall move the adoption of the following resolution:
Whereas 90 years of service For Home and County was recently celebrated by the Port Williams Women's Institute; and
Whereas the Port Williams Women's Institute was established in November 1913, and was one of the first branches in Nova Scotia; and
Whereas the organization was instrumental in the development of the Adopt-A-Highway Program, as well as sponsoring Safety Day Camps and working in local schools;
Therefore be it resolved that the members of this House congratulate all the past and present members of the Port Williams Women's Institute on their 90th Anniversary, and recognize their many efforts over the years that have made the community a better place.

MR. CHARLES PARKER: Mr. Speaker, I hereby give notice that on a future day I shall move the adoption of the following resolution:
Whereas Stanley Graham of Rockfield, Pictou County, is celebrating his 95th birthday today; and
Whereas Stanley has been very faithful to his church community at West River Presbyterian Church, Durham, having served as elder, clerk of session and superintendent of the Sunday school; and
Whereas Stanley has a strong interest in local history, having written books on both his community and his church;
Therefore be it resolved that the members of this Legislative Assembly congratulate Stanley Graham on attaining this important milestone, and wish him much health and happiness in the future.

RESOLUTION NO. 1271
MR. GERALD SAMPSON: Mr. Speaker, I hereby give notice that on a future day I shall move the adoption of the following resolution:
Whereas the moratorium on applying bio-solids to land has been extended for another two weeks, until May 15th; and
Whereas all approvals related to land application of sewage, septage, sludge and other bio-solids remain suspended until further notice; and
Whereas municipalities have been requesting this and are the closest level of government to the people; this is a good exercise, a show of goodwill, that the government will now extend the deadline;
Therefore be it resolved that the members of this House commend the minister (Interruptions)

RESOLUTION NO. 1272
MR. JERRY PYE: Mr. Speaker, I hereby give notice that on a future day I shall move the adoption of the following resolution:
Whereas volunteers give so generously of their energies, skills and family time and are the unsung heroes and the backbones of our communities; and
Whereas April 18th to April 24th was National Volunteer Week, a week dedicated to honouring many volunteers who are the key to community success; and
Whereas Alexander G. Donaldson was recognized by the Halifax Regional Municipality as a youth volunteer for his many efforts in the community, including: Sponsor Committee Chairman of the Dartmouth High School Year Book, the DHS Peer Drug Educators Program, server in the DHS Breakfast Program, participant in the DHS World Vision of Famine, Grade Four Sunday School at St. Paul's Church, altar server and involvement in the youth ministry;
Therefore be it resolved that all members of the Nova Scotia Legislature recognize the important role volunteers play in our lives and pay tribute to Alexander G. Donaldson for his outstanding volunteer services which have contributed to the well-being of the Dartmouth North community.

RESOLUTION NO. 1273
MR. LEO GLAVINE: Mr. Speaker, I hereby give notice that on a future day I shall move the adoption of the following resolution:
Whereas Dana Bentley is a Grade 9 student at Berwick School who has been guiding for 10 years; and
Whereas Ms. Bentley has been chosen to represent Canada along with 14 other Guides and Pathfinders for a 10-day adventure with Girl Guides from around the world in Switzerland at "Our Chalet"; and
Whereas this is a phenomenal opportunity for Ms. Bentley and the other Girl Guides and Pathfinders to have a tremendous learning experience, explore another country and make friends from around the world;
Therefore be it resolved that the members of this House recognize the accomplishments made by Dana Bentley and wish her a safe and enjoyable experience while she is in Switzerland.

RESOLUTION NO. 1274
MS. MARILYN MORE: Mr. Speaker, I hereby give notice that on a future day I shall move the adoption of the following resolution:
Whereas the Liberal Party issued a press release yesterday calling for more portable daycare spaces in Nova Scotia; and
Whereas non-profit daycares benefit from assigned, stable daycare spaces under the current operational funding formula for the Province of Nova Scotia; and
Whereas the Liberal Party didn't tell Nova Scotians in its press release that portable spaces are funded at $4 less a day than dedicated childcare spaces;
Therefore be it resolved that the Liberal Party, which also at one time called for higher taxes for low-income earners, reconsider its stand on portable daycare spaces and acknowledge the impact of its policies on those living in poverty in this province.

MR. GORDON GOSSE: Mr. Speaker, I hereby give notice that on a future day I shall move the adoption of the following resolution:
Whereas at the April 16, 2004, Cape Breton Spring Fling, a gathering of musicians was held in support of local food banks; and
Whereas the show at the Savoy Theatre was attended by approximately 125 people; and
Whereas the initiative and dedicated efforts of 19-year-old Jerry Holland, Jr., were instrumental in the show's resounding success;
Therefore be it resolved that the members of this Legislative Assembly congratulate Jerry Holland, Jr. for his commitment to our community and for being a fine role model for the youth of today.

RESOLUTION NO. 1276
MR. WILLIAM ESTABROOKS: Mr. Speaker, I hereby give notice that on a future day I shall move the adoption of the following resolution:
Whereas the Halifax Special Olympics hosted a 24-hour hockey marathon on January 31st and February 1st at the outdoor rink in Boutlier's Point; and
Whereas local teams of all ages combined to raise $6,000 at that event; and
Whereas an added feature of the marathon was a game of ring hockey between a team of Special Olympians and provincial MLAs at which we humbly received a true lesson of sportsmanship and fun;
Therefore be it resolved that the Nova Scotia Legislature congratulate the Special Olympics athletes and thank organizers Steven Gilbert and Martin Gibson for their initiatives with Special Olympics.

RESOLUTION NO. 1277

I hereby give notice that on a future day I shall move the adoption of the following resolution:
Whereas volunteers are of vital importance to all of our communities; and
Whereas the 2004 Provincial Volunteer Awards were presented to individuals from across Nova Scotia at the Provincial Volunteer Award Ceremony and Dinner on April 12th at the Westin Hotel to pay tribute to the thousands of Nova Scotians whose generosity and compassion help to create a better future for us all;
Whereas St. Clair Patterson has been selected by the Town of Hantsport as its Volunteer of the Year for his long-standing and unselfish commitment to his community as a volunteer in many capacities;

Whereas on Saturday, December 6, 2003, local Springhill skater Shelby MacPhee, the daughter of Kelly and Rob MacPhee, took part in the Shannon Open Figure Skating Competition in two different categories; and
Whereas Shelby won a bronze medal in Preliminary skills and later that day she skated and won a silver medal in the Preliminary 10 & Over category; and
Whereas on January 27, 2004, at the Bridgewater Open, Shelby skated away with the gold medal in the pre-preliminary ladies category;
