Intimate Partner Violence Prevention Act

An Act to Prevent Intimate Partner Violence

1 This Act may be cited as the Intimate Partner Violence Prevention Act.

2 In this Act,

"Fund" means the Intimate Partner Violence Prevention Fund established under this Act;

"Minister" means the Minister of Justice.

3 (1) The Intimate Partner Violence Prevention Fund is hereby established.

(2) The objective of the Fund is to

(a) provide core funding to groups that work to prevent intimate partner violence; and

(b) assist victims of intimate partner violence.

(3) The Fund consists of money appropriated for the Fund by the Legislature.

(4) The Minister is responsible for the supervision and administration of the Fund.

4 Subject to subsection 3(3) and the regulations, the Fund shall

(a) provide funding to groups that work to prevent intimate partner violence; and

(b) provide financial assistance to victims of intimate partner violence.

5 (1) The Minister may make regulations

(a) prescribing eligibility for groups that work to prevent intimate partner violence to receive funding under this Act;

(b) prescribing the amount of funding that may be paid under this Act to groups that work to prevent intimate partner violence;

(c) prescribing financial assistance that may be provided to victims of intimate partner violence;

(d) respecting any matter or thing the Minister deems necessary or advisable to carry out effectively the intent and purpose of this Act.

(2) The exercise by the Minister of the authority contained in subsection (1) is a regulation within the meaning of the Regulations Act.
