Explanatory Note

This Bill eliminates the possibility of a different minimum wage rate for apprentices and inexperienced employees.

An Act to Amend Chapter 246
of the Revised Statutes, 1989,
the Labour Standards Code,
to Eliminate a Different Minimum Wage Rate
for Apprentices and Inexperienced Employees

Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 (1) Clause 50(2)(g) of Chapter 246 of the Revised Statutes, 1989, the Labour Standards Code, is repealed.

(2) Section 50 of Chapter 246, as amended by Chapter 14 of the Acts of 1991, is further amended by adding immediately after subsection (2) the following subsection:

    (3) The Governor in Council may not fix a special rate of wages for apprentices and inexperienced employees.
