An Act Respecting the Establishment of
the Alexander Graham Bell Museum

Short title

1 This Act may be cited as the Bell Museum Act. R.S., c. 35, s. 1.

Interpretation

2 In this Act, "Minister" means the Minister of Government Services. R.S., c. 35, s. 2.

Agreements

3 With the approval of the Governor in Council, the Minister may enter into and carry out an agreement or agreements with the Government of Canada or with any minister or agency thereof upon such terms and conditions as the Minister considers advisable for the purpose of establishing and maintaining at or near Baddeck in the County of Victoria a museum for the storage, preservation and public display of memorabilia of the late Doctor Alexander Graham Bell. R.S., c. 35, s. 3.

Acquisition by Minister

4 (1) The Minister may purchase or otherwise acquire or expropriate in accordance with the provisions of the Expropriation Act such lands at or near Baddeck as he deems necessary for the purpose of the establishment and maintenance of the said museum.

Conveyance by Victoria County

(2) The Municipality of the County of Victoria, for such consideration as the Council of the Municipality considers adequate or without consideration, may sell and convey to Her Majesty in right of the Province any lands of the Municipality considered by the Minister to be necessary for the establishment and maintenance of the said museum.

Conveyance by Baddeck Centre

(3) The Village Commissioners of Baddeck Centre for such consideration as they consider adequate or without consideration may sell and convey to Her Majesty in right of the Province any lands vested in them that the Minister considers necessary for the establishment and maintenance of the said museum. Transfer to federal Crown

5 If the Government of Canada or any minister or agency thereof undertakes to establish the said museum in a manner that is satisfactory to the Minister and thereafter to maintain it, the Governor in Council may grant, convey or transfer to Her Majesty in right of Canada or to the Government of Canada or a minister or agency thereof all the estate, right, title and interest of Her Majesty in right of the Province in or to any lands or part thereof acquired pursuant to Section 4. R.S., c. 35, s. 5.

Funding

6 The Governor in Council may raise by way of loan from time to time on the credit of the Province such sums of money as are deemed necessary for the purpose of carrying out the provisions of this Act or may pay any such sums out of the revenues of the Province for any year or years. R.S., c. 35, s. 6.
