This Bill amends the Motor Vehicle Act to require the driver of a vehicle to
(a) reduce the vehicle's speed to no more than 60 kilometres per hour when passing a tow truck stopped at the scene of a fire or an accident and exhibiting a flashing light; and
(b) not drive in the traffic lane occupied, or partly occupied, by a tow truck stopped at the scene of a fire or an accident and exhibiting a flashing light, or in the traffic lane closest to and not occupied, or partly occupied, by the tow truck, if there is another traffic lane, for traffic moving in the same direction as the vehicle and further from the tow truck, into which the vehicle can safely move.
This would treat tow trucks the same as other emergency vehicles stopped at the scene of a fire or an accident.
Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:
1 Subsection 106D(1) of Chapter 293 of the Revised Statutes, 1989, the Motor Vehicle Act, as enacted by Chapter 20 of the Acts of 2009 and amended by Chapter 20 of the Acts of 2014, is further amended by adding immediately after clause (ba) the following clause:
