Explanatory Note

This Bill amends the Pension Benefits Regulations made pursuant to the Pension Benefits Act, to relieve financial hardship by

(a) adding definitions of "home maintenance expenses", "home maintenance expense circumstance", "home renovation expenses" and "home renovation expense circumstance";

(b) adding home maintenance, and home renovations due to medical disability, to the prescribed circumstances of financial hardship;

(c) adding home renovations due to medical disability to the circumstances covered in the definition of dependant.

An Act to Amend
the Pension Benefits Regulations
with Respect to Necessary Home Repairs
and Renovations Due to Medical Disability

Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 Section 84 of the Pension Benefits Regulations, Nova Scotia Regulations 164/2002, made pursuant to the Pension Benefits Act, is amended by adding immediately after clause (d) the following clauses:

2 (1) Subsection 86(1) of the Regulations is amended by adding immediately after clause (a) the following clauses:

(2) Subsection 86(4) of the Regulations is amended by adding "and the home renovation expense circumstance" immediately after "circumstance" in the first line.
