(a) adding definitions of "home maintenance expenses", "home maintenance expense circumstance", "home renovation expenses" and "home renovation expense circumstance";
(b) adding home maintenance, and home renovations due to medical disability, to the prescribed circumstances of financial hardship;
(c) adding home renovations due to medical disability to the circumstances covered in the definition of dependant.
Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:
1 Section 84 of the Pension Benefits Regulations, Nova Scotia Regulations 164/2002, made pursuant to the Pension Benefits Act, is amended by adding immediately after clause (d) the following clauses:
(db) "home maintenance expense circumstance" means a circumstance of financial hardship as prescribed in clause 86(1)(aa);
(dc) "home renovation expenses" means expenses that are for renovations to a principal residence that are necessary to accommodate and provide accessibility due to a medical disability of the owner, the owner's spouse or common-law partner or a dependent;
(dd) "home renovation expense circumstance" means a circumstance of financial hardship as prescribed in clause 86(1)(ab);
2 (1) Subsection 86(1) of the Regulations is amended by adding immediately after clause (a) the following clauses:
(ab) the owner or the owner's spouse or common-law partner has incurred or will incur home renovation expenses;
(2) Subsection 86(4) of the Regulations is amended by adding "and the home renovation expense circumstance" immediately after "circumstance" in the first line.
