An Act to Establish a Public Consultation
Process on the Enhancement
of the Canada Pension Plan

Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 This Act may be cited as the Public Consultation on the Canada Pension Plan Act.

2 In this Act,

(a) "Canada Pension Plan" means the pension plan established pursuant to the Canada Pension Plan;

(b) "Minister" means the Minister of Labour and Advanced Education.

3 (1) Within six months of the coming into force of this Act, the Minister shall commence a public consultation process to allow persons in the Province to make recommendations and comment upon options for reforming or enhancing of the Canada Pension Plan.

(2) The public consultation process referred to in subsection (1) must include not fewer than six and not more than nine public meetings during which members of the public may provide recommendations and comments.

(3) The public consultation process must be completed within 18 months of the coming into force of this Act.

4 (1) Within 30 days of the completion of the public consultation process, the Minister shall cause a report to be prepared summarizing the recommendations and comments received during the public consultation process.

(2) The Minister shall table the report referred to in the Assembly if the Assembly is then sitting or, where the Assembly is not then sitting, file it with the Clerk of the Assembly.
