An Act to Preserve and Protect Thinkers Lodge

Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 This Act may be cited as the Thinkers' Lodge Act.

2 The purpose of this Act is to preserve and protect Thinkers' Lodge, a national historic site, for the enduring benefit of the people of the Province, Canada and the world at large.

3 In this Act, "Thinkers' Lodge" means the land and premises situate at 227, 247 and 249 Water Street, Pugwash, in the County of Cumberland, having Parcel Identification Number 25156936, owned by Pugwash Park Commissioners, a body incorporated pursuant to Chapter 148 of the Acts of 1929, An Act to Incorporate the Commissioners of the Pugwash Park, for the purpose of promoting and carrying on educational and charitable objects, for the purpose of providing a meeting place for educators, scientists and scholars and generally for the advancement and improvement of education and learning, and includes the Thinkers' Lodge main building and the structures known as the Lobster Factory and the Gatehouse.

4 Thinkers' Lodge may not be seized or attached under any process at law or in equity to satisfy a debt or liability of the Pugwash Park Commissioners or its successors, agents or assigns, including, without limiting the generality of the foregoing, a judgment or lien against the Pugwash Park Commissioners, except to the extent that the debt or liability is incurred by the Commissioners for repairing, maintaining or improving Thinkers' Lodge.

5 No deed, mortgage, pledge, conveyance, assignment or other instrument purporting to convey any interest in Thinkers' Lodge has any effect unless expressly consented to by the Governor in Council.
