An Act to Establish
Stand Up Against Bullying Day

WHEREAS bullying and cyberbullying are growing problems that have devastating effects on young people and their families;

AND WHEREAS in 2007 two brave young men from Central Kings Rural High School, Travis Price and David Shepherd, rallied behind a new student to the school who was being bullied simply for wearing pink;

AND WHEREAS these two young men, along with their fellow students who wore pink to school in support of another student, showed all Nova Scotians just how much of a difference individuals can make;

AND WHEREAS the brave stand taken by Mr Price and Mr Shepherd sparked a movement that spread across Canada;

AND WHEREAS, to send a strong message against bullying and cyberbullying, all schools, colleges and universities in the Province should spread a positive message against bullying at the start of each school year:

THEREFORE be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 This Act may be cited as the Stand Up Against Bullying Day Act.

2 Throughout the Province, in each and every year, the third Thursday in September shall be kept and observed under the name of Stand Up Against Bullying Day.
