An Act to Establish
the Autism Working Group

1 This Act may be cited as the Autism Working Group Act.

2 In this Act, "Ministers" means the Minister of Community Services, the Minister of Education and the Minister of Health.

3 The Ministers shall appoint an Autism Working Group consisting of such persons as the Ministers may determine, including representatives from each of the following:

(a) the Department of Community Services;

(b) the Department of Education;

(c) the Department of Health;

(d) parents and advocates nominated by the Autism Society of Nova Scotia.

4 Subject to Section 6, the Autism Working Group shall, on or before April 1, 2009,

(a) undertake consultations with departments and agencies of the Government and others as the Group considers advisable;

(b) compare and contrast programs and supports offered in the Province with the best practices offered in other jurisdictions; and

(c) make evidence-based recommendations addressing the intervention, support and accommodation needs across the lifespan of individuals living with and affected by autism spectrum disorder.

5 (1) The Governor in Council may make regulations respecting any matter the Governor in Council considers necessary or advisable to carry out effectively the intent and purpose of this Act.

(2) The exercise by the Governor in Council of the authority set out in subsection (1) is regulations within the meaning of the Regulations Act.

6 The moneys required for the purpose of this Act shall be paid out of moneys appropriated for that purpose by the Legislature.
