Explanatory Note

This Bill increases the size of the Board of Directors of the Nova Scotia Provincial Exhibition Commission to 9 members, provides that a vacancy on the Board is to be filled by a person selected by the Board and reduces the frequency of mandatory meetings of the Board.

An Act to Amend Chapter 69
of the Acts of 1992, the Nova Scotia
Provincial Exhibition Commission Act

Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 (1) Subsection 7(2) of Chapter 69 of the Acts of 1992, the Nova Scotia Provincial Exhibition Commission Act, is amended by striking out ", in order to elect to the Board two Directors, each of whom holds office for a term of three years" in the last two lines.

(2) Section 7 of Chapter 69 is further amended by adding immediately after subsection (2) the following subsections:

(3) Subsection 7(5) of Chapter 69 is amended by striking out "a general meeting of the members shall be convened to elect a qualified member to serve as a member of the Board for the unexpired portion of the term" in the last four lines and substituting "the Board vacancy thereby created shall until the next annual meeting of the Commission be filled by a person appointed by the Board from among the members of the Commission".

(4) Subsections 7(6) and (7) of Chapter 69 are repealed and the following subsection substituted:
