Explanatory Notes

Clause 1 clarifies the powers of the Registrar of Credit with respect to the issuance, suspension or cancellation of any permit issued under the Consumer Protection Act.

Clause 2 requires a payday lender to have a permit and imposes certain restrictions and obligations on a payday lender for the protection of borrowers.

Clause 3 provides that the Act comes into force on proclamation.

An Act to Amend Chapter 92
of the Revised Statutes, 1989,
the Consumer Protection Act

Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 Chapter 92 of the Revised Statutes, 1989, the Consumer Protection Act, is amended by adding immediately after Section 12 the following Section:

2 Chapter 92 is further amended by adding immediately after Section 18 the following Sections:

3 This Act comes into force on such day as the Governor in Council orders and declares by proclamation.
