This Bill enables an emergency notification system to be established which will allow emergency service agencies to contact telephone customers within an emergency service zone regarding an imminent danger or emergency that may affect those customer's health, safety or welfare.
1 Chapter 4 of the Acts of 1992, the Emergency "911" Act, is amended by adding immediately after Section 8 the following Section:
(2) A person who provides an emergency notification system referred to in subsection (1) is a CLEC within the meaning of this Act.
(3) Maritime or a CLEC shall, upon request, provide to each emergency service agency in an emergency service zone the telephone number and address data, including all listed, unlisted and unpublished numbers and addresses for each telephone customer within the emergency service zone.
(4) Maritime or a CLEC may charge a reasonable fee to provide the information referred to in subsection (3).
(5) An emergency service agency shall not request the information referred to in subsection (3) more than once per month.
(6) The information referred to in subsection (3) shall be used only for the purpose of this Section.
2 This Act comes into force on such day as the Governor in Council orders and declares by proclamation.
