Explanatory Note
This Bill authorizes a municipal council to lower the speed limit in a residence district.
An Act to Amend Chapter 293
of the Revised Statutes, 1989,
the Motor Vehicle Act
Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:
1 Chapter 293 of the Revised Statutes, 1989, the Motor Vehicle Act, is amended by adding immediately after Section 105 the following Section:
105A Notwithstanding clause (g) of subsection (2) of
Section 102, the council of a regional municipality, incorporated town or municipality of a county or
district may lower the maximum rate of speed in a residence district or part of a residence district and,
where the council lowers the maximum rate of speed, the traffic authority shall erect and maintain
appropriate signs giving notice of such decreased maximum rate of speed.
