Explanatory Notes
Clause 1 requires a person injuring an animal to report the injury to the owner or person in charge of the animal or to a peace officer as soon as reasonably possible. This does not apply to wildlife unless in captivity unless it is apparent that the owner or person in charge of the animal is aware of the injury.
Clause 2 requires a person injuring wildlife to report the injury to the Department of Natural Resources as soon as reasonably possible.
An Act to Amend Chapter 22
of the Acts of 1996,
the Animal Cruelty Prevention Act,
and to Amend Chapter 504
of the Revised Statutes, 1989,
the Wildlife Act
1 Chapter 22 of the Acts of 1996, the Animal Cruelty Prevention Act, is amended by adding immediately after Section 11 the following Section:
11A Any person, other than the owner or person in charge of an animal, who injures the animal shall, as soon as reasonably possible, report the injury to the owner or person in charge of the animal or to a peace officer unless it is apparent that the owner or person in charge of the animal is aware of the injury.
2 Chapter 504 of the Revised Statutes, 1989, the Wildlife Act, is amended by adding immediately after Section 10 the following Section:
10A Any person who injures any wildlife shall, as soon as reasonably possible, report the injury to a conservation officer at the nearest office of the Department.
