Explanatory Notes

Clauses 1 to 4 amend the long and short titles of the Izaak Walton Killam - Grace Health Centre Act, amend the definition of "Corporation" and make a consequential amendment to reflect the new name of the hospital.

Clause 5 makes it clear that the objects of the Corporation are to provide health services and programs for youth as well as for children, women and families with a view to improving the health and health status of youth.

Clauses 6 to 8 make the necessary changes in the Health Authorities Act to reflect the new name of the hospital.

Clause 9 amends the definition of "Hospital" in the Hospital Education Assistance Act to reflect the new name of the hospital.

Clause 10 provides that a reference to the Izaak Walton Killam - Grace Health Centre for Children, Women and Families in any Act, rule, order, regulation, by-law, ordinance, proceeding or document is to be construed as a reference to the Izaak Walton Killam Health Centre.

An Act to Amend Chapter 26
of the Acts of 1996,
the Izaak Walton Killam - Grace
Health Centre Act

Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 The title of Chapter 26 of the Acts of 1996 is changed from "An Act to Incorporate the Izaak Walton Killam - Grace Health Centre for Children, Women and Families" to "An Act Respecting the Izaak Walton Killam Health Centre".

2 Section 1 of Chapter 26 is repealed and the following Section substituted:

3 Clause 2(b) of Chapter 26 is repealed and the following clause substituted:

4 Section 3 of Chapter 26 is amended by striking out "Izaak Walton Killam - Grace Health Centre for Children, Women and Families" in the second and third lines and substituting "Izaak Walton Killam Health Centre".

5 (1) Subsection 4(1) of Chapter 26 is amended by adding ", youth" immediately after "children" in the third line.

(2) Subsection 4(2) of Chapter 26 is amended by adding ", youth" immediately after "children" in the third line.

6 Clause 2(m) of Chapter 6 of the Acts of 2000, the Health Authorities Act, is repealed and the following clause substituted:

7 Subsection 67(2) of Chapter 6 is amended by striking out "- Grace" in the first and second lines.

8 Chapter 6 is further amended by striking out "IWK-Grace" wherever it appears in Chapter 6 and substituting in each case "IWK".

9 Clause 2(b) of Chapter 205 of the Revised Statutes, 1989, the Hospital Education Assistance Act, is repealed and the following clause substituted:

10 A reference in any Act of the Legislature or in any rule, order, regulation, by-law, ordinance or proceeding or in any document to the Izaak Walton Killam - Grace Health Centre for Children, Women and Families, whether the reference is by official name or otherwise, shall as regards any subsequent transaction, matter or thing be held and construed to be a reference to the Izaak Walton Killam Health Centre.
