An Act to Provide for
Defraying Certain Charges and Expenses of
the Public Service of the Province

Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 This Act may be cited as the Appropriations Act, 2001.

2 The several sums of money hereinafter stated are granted to His Honour the Lieutenant Governor for the purpose of defraying the undermentioned several charges and expenses of the public service for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2002:

Department of Community Services 626,508,000

Department of Economic Development 34,708,000

Department of Education 888,437,000

Assistance to Universities,

Department of Education 201,232,000

Department of Environment and Labour 27,072,000

Department of Finance 12,867,000

Debt Servicing Costs,

Department of Finance 1,043,399,000

Department of Health 1,819,031,000

Department of Justice 88,883,000

Department of Natural Resources 53,945,000

Communications Nova Scotia 3,200,000

Emergency Measures Organization of Nova Scotia 631,000

3 Notwithstanding Section 2, the sum chargeable to Capital Purchase Requirements may be expended in the period from April 1, 2001, to March 31, 2003, inclusive.

4 The said several sums shall be paid by the Minister of Finance subject to the provisions of the statutes in that behalf out of the moneys that are applicable to the several purposes for which the said several sums are granted.

5 The Governor in Council is authorized, for purposes of Sections 46 and 52 of the Provincial Finance Act, and the Minister of Finance is authorized, for purposes of borrowing for a term of greater than one calendar year pursuant to Sections 47 and 52 of that Act, to borrow or raise by way of loan on the credit of the Province, either before or after the expiration of the said fiscal year, and in addition to borrowings authorized by other enactments, the sum of $1,500,000,000 for the public service.

6 This Act has effect on and after April 1, 2001.
