Explanatory Notes

Clause 1 makes amendments to the provisions of the Education Act dealing with elections to the Conseil scolaire acadien provincial so that they mirror the provisions for election of African Nova Scotian representatives to school boards.

Clause 2 provides for the election of one African Nova Scotian to each school board by the African Nova Scotian electors of the school district.

An Act to Amend Chapter 1
of the Acts of 1995-96,
the Education Act

Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 Subsection 13(3) of Chapter 1 of the Acts of 1995-96, the Education Act, is amended by

(a) striking out clauses (b) and (c) and substituting the following clauses:

(b) striking out "directed by the Municipal Elections Officer" in the third and fourth lines of clause (d) and substituting "prescribed by or pursuant to the Municipal Elections Act"; and

(c) striking out clause (e) and substituting the following clause:

2 Chapter 1 is further amended by adding immediately after Section 42 the following Section:
