An Act to Enable Residents of
the Cape Breton Regional Municipality
to Require the Municipality
to Hold a Plebiscite Respecting
Policing or Public Safety

Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 This Act may be cited as the Cape Breton Regional Municipality Plebiscite Act.

2 Where the Council of the Cape Breton Regional Municipality receives a petition signed by ten per cent or more of the residents of the Municipality requesting the Council to direct that a plebiscite be held on a question respecting policing or public safety in the Municipality as set out in the petition, the Council shall direct that the plebiscite be held and that the Clerk of the Municipality hold a public meeting in connection with the plebiscite.

3 Section 53 of the Municipal Government Act applies to a plebiscite directed pursuant to this Act.
