Explanatory Note
This Bill prohibits the forgiving of a debt due to the Province in the form of a loan without the
approval of the House of Assembly.
An Act to Amend Chapter 365
of the Revised Statutes, 1989,
the Provincial Finance Act,
to Restrict the Forgiveness of Debts
Due to the Province of Nova Scotia
Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:
1 Chapter 365 of the Revised Statutes, 1989, the Provincial Finance Act, is amended by
adding immediately after Section 19B the following Section:
19C Notwithstanding any other enactment, a debt due the Province in the form of a loan
may only be forgiven after a resolution has been passed by the House of Assembly
authorizing the forgiving of the debt or, where the forgiving of the debt is subject to terms
and conditions, authorizing the terms and conditions.
