An Act to Strengthen
Nova Scotia's Coastal Communities

Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 This Act may be cited as the Fisheries Organizations Consultation (1998) Act.

2 In this Act, "fisheries organizations" are not limited to fisheries organizations accredited pursuant to the Fisheries Organizations Support Act.

3 Within six months of the coming into force of this Act, the Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture shall

(a) consult with fisheries organizations;

(b) prepare a plan for using the Province's powers, including the power to license the processing, buying, selling, packaging and marketing of fish and fish products, to promote a system of community control of the fishery; and

(c) table the plan in the House of Assembly.
