MR. SPEAKER: Order, please. I call the House to order and welcome everybody back. The honourable Interim Leader of the Progressive Conservative Party will now present to the House the newly elected member for Inverness.
[Hon. Karen Casey and Hon. Murray Scott escorted Mr. Allan MacMaster into the House.]

HON. KAREN CASEY: Mr. Speaker, I have the honour to present to you Mr. Allan MacMaster, representing the electoral district of Inverness. He has taken the oath, he has signed the roll and claims the right to take his seat.
MR. SPEAKER: Let the honourable member take his seat.
We certainly want to welcome our newest member and wish the honourable member for Inverness every success here in the Chamber.
SERGEANT-AT-ARMS: Her Honour, the Lieutenant Governor, is without.
MR. SPEAKER: Let Her Honour, the Lieutenant Governor, be admitted.
[The Speaker and Clerks left the Chamber.]
[The Lieutenant Governor, the Honourable Mayann E. Francis, preceded by members of the Official Escort, her Private Secretary, her ADC and by Mr. Ken Greenham, Sergeant-at-Arms, bearing the Mace, entered the House of Assembly Chamber. The Lieutenant Governor then took her seat on the Throne.
The Sergeant-at-Arms then departed and re-entered the Chamber followed by the Speaker, the Honourable Charlie Parker; the Chief Clerk of the House, Roderick MacArthur, Q.C.; and the Assistant Clerk, Neil Ferguson.
The Speaker, with the Sergeant-at-Arms on his right and the Clerks on either side, took up his position at the foot of the Table of the House.]

It is the wish of Her Honour, the Lieutenant Governor, that the ladies and gentlemen be seated.
THE LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR: Mr. Speaker and members of the House of Assembly, in closing this, the First Session of the Sixty-First General Assembly convened in the province, I thank you for the attention and consideration you have given to the measures that have come before you.

Some of the important legislative measures passed over the course of the 35 days included:
Creating an independent administrator to help Nova Scotians cut electricity use;
Increasing penalties for impaired drivers;
Providing accountability to communities experiencing chronic emergency department closures;
Creating a level playing field for political fundraising;
Ensuring a moratorium on exploration and mining of uranium in Nova Scotia; and
Protecting employees from losing their jobs during a public emergency.
In total 30 bills received the approval of the House, including a number of Private and Local Bills.
I thank you for the ample provision you have made for the Public Service and I assure you that the utmost care will be taken to ensure that the amounts voted are expended in an efficient and economical manner and in the best interests of the province.
I now bid you farewell and tender you my very best wishes for your personal prosperity and happiness throughout the year.
THE PREMIER: Mr. Speaker and members of the House of Assembly, it is the will and pleasure of Her Honour, the Lieutenant Governor, that this the First Session of the Sixty-First General Assembly be prorogued and this session is accordingly prorogued and that the Second Session of the said General Assembly meet at two o'clock in the afternoon of this day for the dispatch of business.
