An Act to Amend Chapter 1
(1992 Supplement)
of the Revised Statutes, 1989,
the House of Assembly Act

WHEREAS the Nova Scotia Electoral Boundaries Commission report, dated January 2026, recommended dividing the electoral district of Inverness into two electoral districts;

THEREFORE be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 The boundaries of the 55 electoral districts of the Province, as described in Section 4 of the House of Assembly Act as enacted by Chapter 32 of the Acts of 2019, are confirmed.

2 (1) Subsection 4(1) of Chapter 1 (1992 Supplement) of the Revised Statutes, 1989, the House of Assembly Act, as enacted by Chapter 32 of the Acts of 2019, is amended by

(a) striking out "fifty-five" both times it appears and substituting "fifty-six" in each case; and

(b) adding "Chéticamp–Margarees–Pleasant Bay" in its alphabetical place.

(2) Subsection 4(2) of Chapter 1, as enacted by Chapter 32 of the Acts of 2019, is amended by striking out "The" and substituting "Except as provided in subsections (2A) and (2B), the".

(3) Section 4 of Chapter 1, as enacted by Chapter 32 of the Acts of 2019, is further amended by adding immediately after subsection (2) the following subsections:

    (2A) The boundaries of the electoral district of Chéticamp–Margarees–Pleasant Bay are as recommended in the final report, dated January 2026, of the independent electoral boundaries commission appointed pursuant to Section 5A.

    (2B) The boundaries of the electoral district of Inverness are as recommended for the remaining part of the electoral district of Inverness, as that electoral district was immediately before the coming into force of this Section, in the final report, dated January 2026, of the independent electoral boundaries commission appointed pursuant to Section 5A.

(4) Subsection 4(3) of Chapter 1, as enacted by Chapter 32 of the Acts of 2019, is amended by striking out "subsection (2)" and substituting "subsections (2), (2A) and (2B)".

3 Subsection 5A(4) of Chapter 1 is amended by adding "and are not a change in electoral boundaries for the purpose of subsection 5(3)" immediately after "5".

4 (1) The member for the electoral district of Inverness, as that electoral district was immediately before the coming into force of this Section, continues as the member for the revised electoral district of Inverness until the earlier of the dissolution or the determination by the effluxion of time of the present House of Assembly and that electoral district becoming vacant.

(2) The electoral district of Chéticamp–Margarees–Pleasant Bay is deemed, on the coming into force of this Act, to have become vacant within the meaning of Section 10 of Chapter 1.
