Interim Residential Rental Increase Cap Act

An Act to Amend Chapter 22
of the Acts of 2021,
the Interim Residential Rental Increase Cap Act

Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 Subsection 4(1) of Chapter 22 of the Acts of 2021, the Interim Residential Rental Increase Cap Act, is amended by striking out "two per cent" in the third line and substituting the following clauses:

    (a) until and including December 31, 2023, two per cent;

    (b) from January 1, 2024, to December 31, 2024, inclusive, the amount permitted by the regulations;

    (c) from January 1, 2025, to December 31, 2025, inclusive, the amount permitted by the regulations,

2 Chapter 22 is further amended by adding immediately after Section 5 the following Section:

    5A (1) The Governor in Council may make regulations determining the maximum permitted rent increase or the manner of determining the maximum permitted rent increase for each of the periods referred to in clauses 4(1)(b) and (c).

    (2) The exercise by the Governor in Council of the authority contained in subsection (1) is a regulation within the meaning of the Regulations Act.

3 (1) Subsection 7(1) of Chapter 22 is amended by striking out "2023" in the second line and substituting "2025".

(2) Subsection 7(2) of Chapter 22 is amended by striking out "2024" in the second line and substituting "2026".

4 This Act comes into force on such day as the Governor in Council orders and declares by proclamation.
