An Act Respecting
Regional Health Priorities and Issues

Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 This Act may be cited as the Local Health Act.

2 In this Act,

(a) "healthcare professional" includes doctors, nurse practitioners, registered nurses and administrators of long-term care facilities;

(b) "local health team" means a group of individuals appointed pursuant to Section 3;

(c) "medical practitioner" means a person licensed under the Medical Act;

(d) "Minister" means the Minister of Health and Wellness.

3 (1) The Minister shall appoint healthcare professionals who reside in a region of the Province to form a local health team.

(2) The Minister shall appoint local health teams for each region of the Province.

4 Subject to Section 7, a local health team shall establish a clinical health plan for its region based on the needs of the region and taking into account the information gathered under Sections 5 and 6.

5 Subject to Section 7, a local health team shall undertake, for their region, an inventory of medical practitioners, their ages and such other demographic information as the Minister directs.

6 Subject to Section 7, a local health team shall compile data respecting local health issues, including but not limited to, the percentage of residents with cancer, diabetes, obesity and such other chronic illnesses as the Minister directs.

7 The money required for the purpose of this Act must be paid out of money appropriated for that purpose by the Legislature.
