An Act to Establish a Task Force
on the Future of the Forestry Industry
in Nova Scotia

Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 This Act may be cited as the Forestry Industry Sustainability Act.

2 The purpose of this Act is to find ways to support the forestry industry in the event of the closing of Northern Pulp Nova Scotia Corporation's mill in Pictou County.

3 The Executive Council shall appoint a task force no later than April 30, 2019, to make recommendations for ways in which the Province can maintain a thriving forestry industry.

4 The task force must be composed of members of the forestry industry and any other person deemed appropriate by the Executive Council.

5 The Executive Council shall appoint a facilitator to

(a) provide guidance to the task force in its discussions;

(b) assist the task force in developing recommendations;

(c) make recommendations to the Executive Council; and

(d) perform such other duties as may be assigned by the Executive Council.

6 (1) The facilitator shall deliver to the Executive Council the recommendations made under Section 5 no later than June 30, 2019, or at such time as agreed by the facilitator and the Executive Council.

(2) The facilitator shall make the recommendations publicly available 30 days after delivering them to the Executive Council.
