Explanatory Note

This Bill requires the Provincial Advisory Council on Education to hold at least two open meetings every year to receive submissions from the public. It also requires the Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development to maintain a record of the meetings held by the Council on the website of the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development.

An Act to Amend Schedule A
of Chapter 1 of the Acts of 2018,
the Education Act,
Respecting the Provincial
Advisory Council on Education

Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 Schedule A of Chapter 1 of the Acts of 2018, the Education Act, is amended by adding immediately after Section 15 the following Sections:

    15A (1) PACE shall hold at least two meetings every year that are open to the public for the purpose of receiving submissions from the public.

    (2) PACE shall notify the public in advance of the time and place of meetings held under subsection (1).

    (3) At a meeting under subsection (1), a member of the public may make oral submissions to PACE.

    (4) A member of the public may make written submissions, in print or electronically, to PACE at any time.

    15B The Minister shall maintain on the website of the Department a record of the number of meetings held by PACE in each year, including the time and place of each meeting.
