An Act to Ensure the Permanent Closure
of the Sackville Landfill

Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 This Act may be cited as the Sackville Landfill Closure Act.

2 The purpose of this Act is to ensure the permanent closure of the Sackville Landfill and to prohibit the transfer of any form of waste to the Sackville Landfill Leachate Treatment Plant.

3 In this Act,

(a) "Sackville Landfill" means the closed municipal solid waste landfill site located on Highway 101 between Upper Sackville and Mount Uniacke in the Halifax Regional Municipality;

(b) "Sackville Landfill Leachate Treatment Plant" means the leachate treatment facility located at the Sackville Landfill;

(c) "waste" includes garbage, compost, rubbish, slimes, tailings, effluent, sewage, wastewater, leachate or other waste products of any kind and in any form, whether it be solid, liquid or gas.

4 Notwithstanding any other enactment, no person shall dispose of, dump, discharge, deposit, transfer or in any way bring waste to the Sackville Landfill or the Sackville Landfill Leachate Treatment Plant.
