Explanatory Note

This Bill provides for an annual increase in the maximum assistance payable under the Employment Support and Income Assistance Act equal to the annual increase in the Consumer Price Index.

An Act to Amend Chapter 27
of the Acts of 2000,
the Employment Support and Income Assistance Act

Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 Section 7 of Chapter 27 of the Acts of 2000, the Employment Support and Income Assistance Act, is amended by adding immediately after subsection (2) the following subsections:

(3) Notwithstanding subsection (1) and the regulations but subject to subsection (4), the amounts of maximum assistance set out in the regulations are increased at the beginning of each fiscal year by the increase in the Consumer Price Index over the immediately preceding fiscal year.

(4) The money required for the purpose of subsection (3) must be paid out of money appropriated for that purpose by the Legislature.
